December 22, 2003 By: Jen Bead Deaf Education Pack – Fundraising Made Training Resources AvailableA successful bid to the DFES Small Programmes Fund from DCCAP (Deaf Children's Communication Aids Project) has made funding available for creating training resources for Teachers of the Deaf in England. The funding will be used to develop CD-Rom and web-based resources to help raise awareness of how ICT can be effectively used with deaf children and young people. Paul Bonsor, Teacher of the Deaf working for the Oxfordshire Hearing Support Service, has been appointed as Project Co-ordinator. He will be working part-time on the Project for a year, juggling this new role with his existing work supporting deaf children in mainstream schools in North Oxfordshire. The aim of the project is to bring together the good practice being used in schools across the country and present it as a stimulating and informative resource pack for people involved in the education of deaf children and young people. The free CD-Rom will be primarily distributed via the BATOD magazine which reaches most Teachers of the Deaf. It will also be available by post. The web site will reflect the content of the CD-Rom and will make the material available more widely. Paul started work in June, planning and researching what to include in the project. "This is a fantastic opportunity to bring together, share and develop good practice which will enrich the learning experience of deaf children. I will be contacting Teachers of the Deaf countrywide to identify good practice which can be used in the project."
