Hearing Aid Battery – Different Sized Hearing Aid Batteries

Product Ventures Ltd., a strategic design and development group, announced today that it has received the prestigious GOOD DESIGN award for the DURACELL EASYTAB product design which has revolutionized the hearing aid industry.

About the GOOD DESIGN(TM) Award

The GOOD DESIGN award remains one of the oldest and most important design competitions worldwide. Founded in 1950, by the former curator of the museum of Modern Art-- Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., the award recognizes designers and manufacturers for advancing new and innovative product concepts. Hundreds of submissions were received from over 40 countries. A jury in Helsinki, Finland judged the awards in November 2001. The GOOD DESIGN winners will be exhibited at a show, which opens in March 2002 at the Chicago Athenaeum's main museum.

About the Product

"Duracell was seeking differentiation from competitors that all had similar "circular-dial" packaging which made hearing aids batteries difficult to retrieve, load and activate, " said Peter B. Clarke, president and founder of Product Ventures Ltd. "Owners of newer hearing aid models change batteries up to 50 times a year. Compounding these functional issues was the fact that the target consumer was 55+, often times with failing eyesight and reduced dexterity. We conducted product use focus groups that illustrated the many shortfalls of existing packaging; and we determined that Duracell needed a new delivery system not just a new package. We recommended a custom designed tab to be used as a "tool" to easily remove the battery from newly developed packaging which is rectangular and hinged for easy opening. Inside the batteries are secured in a single row with tabs facing outward for easy removal and discreet carrying. The tabs and packaging are color-coded enabling consumers to easily identify their size. Post-use focus groups confirmed that Consumers were elated with the new DURACELL EASYTAB, which sold out within the first month on the shelf."
