May 12, 2004 By: Lucas Simpson Children Hearing Loss – KidsAbility CenterUnitron Hearing will assist children with hearing loss in Waterloo Region through a community sponsorship with KidsAbility - Centre for Child Development. Unitron Hearing is pleased to support the programming for four children receiving Hearing Services at KidsAbility. These children will participate in family-focused therapy sessions to develop language and speech skills through listening. This is one of several speech services for preschool children experiencing communication delays or disorders in language, articulation, fluency and voice. Unitron Hearing and KidsAbility are an ideal community sponsorship partnership since both are committed to making life better for children and people with hearing loss. Unitron Hearing provides easy-to-use, unique digital solutions to help people quickly realize the benefits of their hearing instrument. All of Unitron Hearing’s digital hearing instruments incorporate special features to solve the everyday problems and concerns people have with hearing loss and hearing aids. KidsAbility is a partner in the Ontario Infant Hearing Program. Though this program, hearing screenings are provided to more than 1 000 babies and toddlers in the Region each year. Families are provided with resources and support as they meet the challenges of a newly diagnosed youngster with a hearing loss. Auditory Verbal Therapy is provided to children of families interested in maximizing communication development using residual, aided hearing. Resources and supports are provided to accomodate the unique nature of every child. Unitron Hearing has been unique in sponsoring the expansion of communication services to children with hearing loss at KidsAbility. Unitron Hearing realizes the importance of assessing and helping children early on in their development with their hearing and communication challenges, said Cameron Hay, Vice-President & Chief Operating Officer, Unitron Hearing. The earlier a hearing loss is treated, the better it is for a child’s speech, language, social and academic development. KidsAbility offers many valuable services for diagnosis and treatment and helps cultivate the potential of children and young adults. We are pleased to support them in their campaign initiatives.
