April 28, 2005 By: William Pensworth Free Hearing Tests – Get Checked Out Before It Becomes An IssueRepresentatives from the House Ear Institute and Shure Incorporated in partnership sponsored free hearing tests to both attendees and exhibitors at the 2003 NAMM Winter Show at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. A certified OSHA technician conducted the hearing test and a licensed audiologist from the House Ear Institute was present to privately counsel participants on results of their hearing screening. The House Ear Institute (HEI) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing hearing science through research and education. The free hearing test was conducted at no cost to the participants and were a part of the House Ear Institute’s Sound Partners program and Shure’s Bid for Hearing program. Sound Partners aims to spread awareness among audio, recording and music professionals of permanent hearing loss risks caused by overexposure to excessive sound levels. Shure’s Bid for Hearing is the company’s hearing conservation program and is dedicated to educating consumers and audio professionals on the hazards of noise-induced permanent hearing loss, and the importance of a regular hearing test. This sponsorship of hearing screenings at NAMM was aimed at spreading awareness amongst industry professionals whose lives revolve around a wide range of sound frequencies to comprehend the perils caused by loud noises on the human sense of hearing and to enjoy sound responsibly. To test how people hear is very important, and could save future impairments.
