Hearing Loss Technology – Stunning New Advancements

ScanSoft Inc. and Teltronics are working together to provide computer based hearing loss technology solutions for people who are hard of hearing. These hearing loss technologies make independent two-way personal communication possible for those with hearing loss.

The iCommunicator V.4.0 from Teltronics is the technology solution currently on offer for people with varying degrees of hearing losses. It uses the Dragon NaturallySpeaking7 software from ScanSoft as its speech engine. In this solution, the speaker with a wireless headset microphone speaks naturally and the sound of their speech is converted through appropriate technologies into digital signals.

The person with hearing loss can now use one or more of three different types of output technologies: speech displayed as text on the computer screen, video signs from the iCommunicator database of 9,200 video clips, or listen to synthesized speech delivered directly to their hearing aid. This technology is used widely to in K-12 education, higher educational institutions, corporate, government and healthcare institutions and in public access sites. Use of iCommunicator technology makes those with the inability to hear increasingly independent.

ScanSoft is a Level 1 Partner for Microsoft, and supplies a wide range of applications and toolkits based on speech recognition technologies and text to speech conversion technologies. Hands free PC dictation, command and control for the physically challenged, talking dictionaries for those with learning disabilities and hearing or visual limitations are included in its well-established technology products.
