Older people with hearing aid implants find a significant increase in speech perception and improvement in listening quality. Hearing impairment is an underestimated health problem in Europe and is the third leading chronic disability following arthritis and hypertension. Hearing loss statistics indicate that 6% of the European population suffers from hearing disorders - 22.5 million Europeans suffer from some form of hearing losses with 2 million people profoundly deaf. A well established hearing loss statistic states that over 50% of all hearing disabilities are caused by genetic factor. Over the last 7 years, the European Commission has routed more than €10 million into research on different aspects of hearing losses. All in all, the financial burden of hearing impairment in Europe has been estimated to be €78 billion per year.
